Girls generalize from specifics, men generalize and apply it to specifics
It is important to note that girls and guys think differently. Well, most of the time.
Men are typically “gist thinkers”. This means that they think broadly. If they are driving, they are driving and not focusing on anything else. If they want a girl, they want her and don’t notice her skirt or split ends.
Girls, however, are “specific thinkers. They focus on certain characteristics or details to form a general impression. When driving, they would notice the slight crack in the windscreen and get distracted. They could focus on a guy’s weird tooth and conclude that he is a bit odd.
Boys need to compensate for this and girls need to understand the general way guys think.
Men, try to focus on the small details. Make sure you offer to do the dishes, kiss her forehead, smile at her randomly. She will conclude from the small things that you love her.
Girls, know that he probably didn’t even notice that small problem. He probably didn’t mean to offend you with those specific words. He thinks generally and sometimes the specific language he uses or actions he performs offend you, but he didn’t mean it. The general meaning of the conversation is what mattered to him, not the specific tone or words used.
Men use their general knowledge of a situation to make sense of the specifics. They might think you’re absolutely fine because they missed your subtle death stares and cold shoulder. He thinks, because you said you were fine, why confuse it by focusing on the small actions?
So understand the differences. Make them work.
